Principal Dentist
Chris qualified from Queens University in 2003 and completed his vocational training in Scotland before travelling to work in Australia.Upon returning to Ireland, he has gained experience in both NHS and Private dentistry as well as working as a Clinical Teaching Fellow in the School of Dentistry, training other dentists.
He opened Fortwilliam Dental Practice in 2012 with Business Partner, Christine, and has built the Practice steadily over the years. He has previously been a Vocational Trainer within the practice training recent graduates in their first year post university.
Never one to rest easy, Chris places great importance on continuing education he has achieved post-graduate qualifications including the MFDS from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and a PGCE in Clinical Education (QUB) and continues to travel to the UK and Europe to gain further qualifications and skills, from internationally renowned dentists.
Chris has a special interest in dental implants and cosmetic dentistry.
Chris has also been placing and restoring dental implants for the past decade and is an advocate of digital dentistry. He has brought modern digital dentistry to Fortwilliam Dental Practice, by investing and continuing to invest in the latest equipment including digital x-rays, CBCT scanner and intraoral scanners. He uses these to plan and place implants with pinpoint precision using guided surgery techniques.
Chris enjoys cosmetic dentistry as well and has training for both fixed orthodontics and aligners. These skills and training are brought together to allow for Digital Smile Design principles to be applied and give patients the improved smile they are looking for.
Away from dentistry, Chris loves travel and spending time with his wife, Ciara, and young family.
He loves any sport, but especially football (Liverpool and Cliftonville FC) and golf.

Principal Dentist
Christine graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 2000 and has spent the majority of her career working in practice in North Belfast before setting up in partnership with Chris Scannell in 2012. She has previously been a vocational trainer and enjoys passing on her knowledge to younger colleagues.Christine enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and provides a high standard of general care. She is passionate about providing pain free dentistry and warmly welcomes nervous patients and children into her care.
Christine is always keen to keep her skills up to date and regularly attends courses. She has recently completed training in the use of acupuncture to help manage anxiety and pain from clenching/grinding etc. She has also been trained in the use of the Smilefast system for smile makeovers with composite bonding.

Associate Dentist
Clodagh qualified from Queen's University Belfast in 2013. She moved to Newcastle upon Tyne and completed post graduate training in both hospital and practice settings. In 2015 she moved back to Belfast and has been working in general practice since.Clodagh has a great passion for helping her patients improve their oral health and reduce their dental anxiety. She is a firm believer in continually working to improve her skills, completing her MFDS in 2015 and undertaking a year long restorative course in cosmetic and aesthetic restorative dentistry in 2020.
Clodagh also provides facial aesthetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections and lip fillers.

James has joined our team in September 2024. James qualified as a dentist from Queen’s University Belfast in 2021 & he has worked as a general dentist since then.James loves giving patient’s their dream smile – particularly by moving teeth and making them straight. He can use the metal braces or the clear aligners. He enjoys extracting teeth too. He is a fan of putting nervous patients at ease and making the dentist a relaxing experience. James likes helping children with their dental health.
James is currently completing a Diploma in Implant Dentistry in London, part time, to help give our patients solutions to missing teeth.
Outside of the dental surgery, he loves the outdoors: hiking, cycling and running. Last year he ran his first marathon to support a charity which works against human trafficking and slavery.

Ben qualified from Queen’s University, Belfast. Before working in Fortwilliam Dental Practice, Ben worked in Edinburgh and then as part of the Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine team within the School of Dentistry in the Royal.Ben enjoys all aspects of Dentistry but oral surgery and kids dentistry are his favourite areas. He is continually progressing his career having completed his Membership of Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) examination and taking part in regular courses.
